Australia Day nominations now open

Nominations for the 2021 Yass Valley Australia Day Awards are now open. The community is called upon to nominate outstanding individuals and groups that make a significant contribution and difference to the Yass Valley. Nominations may be submitted by community groups, organisations and individuals using the nomination form 

Works schedule

Unsealed roads program – maintenance grading (weather permitting) for 23 November – 27 November 2020:

Council has engaged a contractor to undertake works within Gundaroo. These works include construction of a new footpath to align with the existing footpath in front of the Recreation Ground on Cork Street, remediation works to the existing footpath on Lot Street and also construction of a new footpath to align with the existing footpath on Lot Street. These works will commence today (Monday, 16 November), starting on Cork Street. Works are anticipated to be completed by early December 2020 (weather permitting). 

Swim reminders

From Monday, 23 November 2020, patron check-in at public swimming pools must be completed using electronic methods such as a QR code. Patrons are required to register their check-in using the QR code prior to entry into Yass and Binalong pools. Council already has the QR codes displayed at several spots around the entry points into both the Yass and Binalong pools for ease of registering. A reminder that as part of the COVID-19 Safety Plan in place at Yass and Binalong Pools, the change rooms and shower facilities will be generally closed (except for school groups on a case-by-case basis and for use by disabled patrons). The toilets are always open. Please come ‘swim ready’ to the pool.

Free road safety workshops for older road users

Yass Valley Council is hosting two free workshops dedicated to providing information for senior road users on Wednesday, 25 November 2020 - Mobility Scooter Workshop from 10.30am to 12pm and 65 Plus Workshop from 1pm to 3.30pm. The workshops aim to provide practical information on mobility scooters and to help road users over the age of 65 years maintain their independence by providing them with details on changes to licensing requirements for people aged 75 and over, as well as a road rules refresher. Service NSW is returning to Binalong in Mobile Service Centre

The Service NSW Binalong Mobile Service Centre will be at the Mechanics Institute Hall on Tuesday, 8 December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Public Consultation Submissions welcome for Civic Precinct

In February 2020, Council endorsed a ‘wish list’ of projects and resolved to undertake planning and design work so the projects would be ‘shovel ready’ in the event of grant funding opportunities. One of these projects is a Civic Precinct, which would include a new library, community rooms and exhibition spaces, long term Government tenants and the retention of Crago's Mill among other elements. Council is keen to understand if the elements for inclusion in the Civic Precinct meet community needs and expectations. Planning Proposal – 7 Iceton Place

Closing date: 5pm Monday, 21 December 2020 At the May meeting, Council resolved to place the draft CA-POL-3 Live Streaming of Council Meetings Policy on public consultation for 28 days to be adopted if no significant submissions are received. More: HERE

Tenders Wee Jasper Road Segment 68 & Good Hope Road Intersection Road Rehabilitation YVC-IA-09-2020

Council has identified Segment 68 of the Wee Jasper Road and the Wee Jasper/Good Hope Road intersection, for upgrade. This section of road is in poor condition and requires rehabilitation and widening to improve serviceability. Council, through a combination of funding through Transport for NSW Regional Road Repair Program and internal funding plan to undertake the works in the 2020/21 financial year. The road rehabilitation area commence approximately 2.4km south of the Wee Jasper Road/Victoria Street intersection in Yass, and continues for approximately 1.2km finishing just to the south of the Good Hope Road intersection. Positions Vacant Financial Accountant

Closing date: 5pm Monday, 30 November 2020. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position manages a small team to provide reliable, timely advice to internal and external stakeholders regarding Council’s financial management and to ensure that Council’s accounting activities comply with legislation, accounting standards and relevant guidelines. Casual Lifeguard/Pool Attendant

Yass Valley Council is now accepting expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates who wish to undertake casual work at our Yass and Binalong swimming pools during the 2020/2021 pool season. We also encourage junior applicants looking to gain experience working at a public swimming pool to apply. For more information: HERE

Casual Customer Service/Administrative Support Officer

Yass Valley Council is now accepting expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates who wish to undertake casual work to provide administrative support and front-line customer service. For more information: HERE
