Murrayville’s first permanent library will open its doors next month.
The new library is based in Pioneer Park and will open at 1pm on Tuesday 1 December, representing a major milestone for the town, and Council’s library services.
The library building was transported to its new home in Pioneer Park in April this year ahead of final works to establish the building on-site and fit-out the building.
More stringent COVID-19 restrictions in recent months have prevented the library from opening, however the recent easing of restrictions has now allowed us to open the service for the first time.
Mildura Mayor Jason Modica said the library was part of a new era for library services in the municipality, made possible through a partnership with the Victorian Government and its Living Libraries Infrastructure program.
“This is the latest step in a broader push to improve library services for residents across our region,’ Cr Modica said.
“It is the result of a comprehensive review several years ago of how we deliver our library services to ensure they’re not only sustainable for many years to come, but improve the services available to residents in the more remote areas of our municipality.
“For towns such as Murrayville it means instead of visits by our mobile library, residents now have a permanent facility, offering a lot more space to enjoy the numerous library items we have to offer.”
The new library features a significant increase in services compared to the mobile library visits it replaces. They include:
borrowing of library materials such as books, audio books, DVDs, music CDs and magazines wireless internet access children and adult programs 24/7 accessIt will be open on Tuesdays from 1pm to 5pm and Thursdays from 9am to 1pm. There will be restrictions on the number of people allowed in the library due to COVID-19 restrictions, and services such as 24/7 access and programs are unable to be offered at this time.
An official opening event will be held early next year pending COVID-19 restrictions to celebrate Murrayville’s new library.
