Following extensive community engagement Council is now proud to unveil detailed concept designs for the upgrade of Woolgoolga and Sawtell Swimming Pools, following the Strategy for Sawtell and Woolgoolga Swimming Pools, which was adopted by Coffs Harbour City Council on 12 September 2019.

Coffs Harbour City Council Mayor Councillor Denise Knight said “both the Pools Strategy and the detailed concept designs take into account comprehensive community engagement exercises to determine the community’s current and predicted usage and needs.

“It’s crucial that we have attractive and popular pools for the community and visitors.”

Coffs Harbour City Council General Manager Steve McGrath said “Sawtell and Woolgoolga Pools are ageing assets, approximately 37 years old, requiring significant work to either upgrade or refurbish them to current standards.

“We recognise that aquatic recreational activities have evolved over time.  The Pools Strategy was developed to ensure future provision of pools and services offered at Sawtell and Woolgoolga address current and future aquatic recreational needs.  We are incredibly pleased to get to this stage and with the concepts presented.”

Woolgoolga and Sawtell Swimming Pool Upgrades and Features

Each pool will have a new eight-lane, plus accessible lane 25-metre main pool, a new 10-metre x 8-metre learn-to-swim pool, multi-function building, splash zone for the kids, new amenities, improved accessibility and many more inclusions are among the great features of this complex.

Main pool will be 25 metres long, with eight lanes, ranging in depth from 1.2 metres to 1.65 metres (Detailed to be FINA compliant), plus an additional lane providing all accessible ramp access, steps and pool ladders to suit a range of abilities 10m x 8m learn to swim pool which will be heated and have an access hoist to suit a range of user abilities Splash pad of about 200 square metres featuring slide, jets and tipping buckets catering for a range of ages and abilities Modern building including: Large undercover multifunctional space New change facilities, toilets and showers for a range of abilities Office Café/ Kiosk First Aid room Swim club room All pools will utilise ultrafine filtration for improved water quality Terrace seating adjacent to the 25 metre pool Grassed areas will be provided around the aquatic components Picnic shelter and BBQ will be provided Site lighting to facilitate night time use.

Council is now seeking government grants funding to assist with the costs of construction of the new Woolgoolga Swimming Pool Complex and the new Sawtell Swimming Pool Complex.
