Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Jason Modica has welcomed the Victorian Government’s budget commitment today of $10 million to complete Stage 2 of the Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct (MSRSP).
Cr Modica said the funding represented a major milestone for the project and was the result of strong and consistent advocacy from local community and government leaders, including Local Member for Mildura Ali Cupper.
“This amazing result shows what can be achieved when a community bands together, side by side with Local Government and State Government leaders to achieve a goal,” Cr Modica said.
“It also further illustrates that we’re on the right path with our Mildura Future Ready (MFR) funding and advocacy strategy, which was the catalyst for this massive project getting started just a few short years ago.
“Today’s announcement brings the Victorian Government’s support for the MSRSP to $13.75 million, which combined with the Australian Government’s commitment of $17.5 million illustrates the strong support our region, and this project, has received from government.”
Council has contributed $12.1 million to the project, while the Mildura Netball Association, South Mildura Sporting Club, Sunraysia Football Netball League and Sunraysia Volleyball Inc. have injected more than $370,000.
Cricket Victoria have also been major supporters, through $275,000 from the Local Cricket Infrastructure Fund.
