Carols and fireworks at Showgrounds

Christmas carols and fireworks are set to light up the Cairns Showgrounds next month as part of a Christian festive celebration.

Council provide $8000 in support for the event, planned the Cairns Showgrounds on 13 December by Christian leaders from local churches and ministries.

Funding will be provided through the 2020/21 Community Events Activities and Projects Grant for the Cairns Christian Ministers Network (CCMN), to deliver the inaugural, family-friendly event, which will feature local schools and choirs.

With support from The Salvation Army, the CCMN event will include performances by Far Northern Brass and local cultural groups, with a small firework display to conclude the evening.

The carols event will be free, but a booking system will be in place to ensure that attendance numbers are kept to the latest COVID restrictions of up to 1500 for outdoor events.
