Queensland Premier Annastasia Palaszczuk announced this week that border restrictions would be lifted from 1 December 2020.
Mareeba Shire Mayor said she is looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the Mareeba Shire.
“I am thrilled to welcome back family, friends and visitors from New South Wales and Victoria to our Shire,” Cr Toppin said.
“The last several months have been incredibly challenging for many family and friends living interstate.
“I am extremely pleased that the restrictions will be further relaxed as we enter into the festive season.
“Christmas will be extra special this year and I sincerely wish everyone a safe and happy time with loved ones,” Cr Toppin said.
Mayor Toppin says while Queensland will expect an influx of visitors over the Christmas and New Year period, residents still need to remain vigilant.
“Residents in our Shire have done a tremendous job following the edicts to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and we do not want to see all the hard work undone.
“While we can now move around the country more freely and catch up with friends and family over the holiday period, please be mindful of the social distancing restrictions in place, keep up the personal hygiene and if you’re not feeling well stay home,” Cr Toppin said.
