A state-of-the-art ‘youth innovation hub’ will be included as part of the new Landsdale library project thanks to a $3 million State Government grant.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City has consulted with the local community on the design of the new facility at 15 The Broadview, Landsdale.
“As key future users of the facility, the City was eager to hear the views of local young people,” Mayor Roberts said.
“The City engaged with the community through its ‘Your Say’ online portal as well as interviewing local school students.
“The young people had some fantastic, creative ideas that will be considered as part of the project’s detailed design process. These include incorporating advanced technology and plenty of space to study, learn and play.
“The design principles of the facility provide a focus on ‘STEAM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning. This includes the new Youth Innovation Hub that will allow young people, and people of all ages to enhance their digital learning, explore different technologies and learn some new skills that may assist with gaining employment in emerging industries.
“I would like to thank the State Government for its generous contribution to the project.”
Potential social and educational facilities at the youth innovation hub include a music and podcast studio, and design and coding areas.
Member for Girrawheen Margaret Quirk MLA said, “This is the fulfilment of a promise I made in 2017 to give young people more local activities. The youth hub will provide a range of things to do and will greatly enhance the library.”
Residents are already eagerly anticipating the completion of the new library.
“Very much looking forward to having a library more accessible,” said one resident.
“The plans look fantastic in providing a resource facility and a community hub for all ages.”
The Library and Youth Innovation Hub is earmarked for completion in 2022.
