Residents are being invited to have their say on the City’s Draft Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy 2020/21 – 2025/26.
Wanneroo Council recently endorsed the draft Strategy to go out for public consultation.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was another step forward in fulfilling the City’s commitment to local actions to combat climate change.
“The City is taking decisive action to safeguard our community’s future,” she said.
“Earlier this year, we became a signatory to the WALGA Climate Change Declaration, strengthening our commitment to addressing the impacts of climate change.
“The focus of the City’s existing Strategy is preparing for and adapting to the impacts of climate change as they arise.
“We recognise there is an increasing need to focus on mitigation efforts to prevent further climate change.
“The updated draft Strategy considers proactive steps we can take to protect our community, now and into the future. This includes setting targets to reduce City emissions.”
In December, the City is hosting a Youth Forum on Climate Change. The session will give young people an opportunity to share their views on how the City should address climate change.
The draft Strategy is out for public comment until 16 January 2021. To have your say, visit www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/consultations.
