Yass Valley residents and business owners know that finding an available parking spot in Comur Street, at times, can be difficult. To help alleviate this parking situation, Council will be undertaking an education period for residents, visitors and business owners.
Council would like to work with business owners to highlight the off street parking for employees in and around the main street. We want to make all businesses aware that Council has received a number of complaints about employees or business vehicles overstaying the parking time limits within the main street, unauthorised parking in disabled zones and, in a few cases, not parking in a marked car parking area.
Working together, we can make shopping as easy and as accessible as possible for residents and visitors of Yass Valley in the lead up to Christmas. If customers have difficulty parking, because parking spaces are taken up by employees or work vehicles, they may choose to take their business elsewhere. Asking staff to park in an all-day parking area and walking a short distance to work is a small step in helping to make your business more accessible to customers, leading to more money in your till or business through your door.
Over the coming weeks, parking patrols will be commencing with a focus on education about appropriate parking behaviors. These patrols may include the ‘tagging’ of vehicles that are not showing permits to park in ‘Disabled Parking Zones’.
