Charbray steers make 560c at Roma...

BLACKALL

November 19 report 

NUMBERS reduced by 1,331 to 1,669 head at the Blackall Weekly Prime and Store Sale on Thursday of last week. Large runs of cattle from the North West dominated the yarding along with consignments from the local supply area. The usual panel of buyers were present and operating across all classes. 

Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock again attracted strong support. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market experienced some quality-related price changes, however heavy weights had very little change in price. All classes of yearling heifers sold to a cheaper trend. Cows also sold to a cheaper market and lost the large gains of the previous week. 

Yearling steers under 200kg made to 496c, averaging 493c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg also made to 496c with a fair sample averaging 453c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged between 369c and 399c, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 398c/kg. 

Lightweight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 426c, averaging 404c, and secondary lines averaged 336c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 336c to 343c and sold to 346c/kg. A fair sample of heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 357c and made to 362c/kg. Grown heifers PTIC returned to the paddock at 360c/kg. 

Lightweight cows sold to re-stockers to 306c and averaged 274c/kg. The best of the medium weight cows to export processors averaged 296c, and good heavy weight cows made to 305c and averaged 299c/kg. Very lightweight bulls averaged 409c and made to 450c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 294c/kg. 

CQLX GRACEMERE

November 18 report 

THE YARDING increased by 778 to 3,488 head at CQLX Gracemere on Wednesday of last week. Cattle were drawn from across central Queensland between Collinsville and Theodore. It was a good quality offering, although some very light-conditioned cattle came from coastal and inland areas near Nebo, Middlemount and St Lawrence. The normal processors and feeder buyers were operating along with a strong re-stocker panel, which resulted in mainly quality-related price variations. 

Steer calves made to a top of 561c, and mixed sexes returned averages between 453c and 477c/kg. Lightweight yearling steers reached 545c and averaged between 445c and 480c/kg. Medium and heavy yearling steers averaged between 403c and 435c/kg. 

Yearling heifers to processors sold to 441c to average between 403c and 421c/kg. Re-stockers paid to 455c for light pens, with medium and heavy weights averaging between 395c and 408c/kg. Grown steers to feed averaged between 397c and 409c, selling to a top of 425c/kg. The few that sold to processors returned to 356c/kg.

Grown heifers to feed made to a top of 408c, averaging between 356c and 382c/kg. Those to the trade made to 380c and averaged from 338c to 378c/kg. 

Two-score cows sold strongly again, reaching 299c and averaging between 277c and 291c/kg. Heavy four-score cows made to 313c/kg. 

Heavy bulls eased, with processors and live exporters averaging between 303c and 307c/kg. Cows and calves made from $1,600 to $2,600/unit. 

EMERALD

November 19 report 

NUMBERS increased by 975 to 2,858 head at Emerald on Thursday of last week. Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area and included a large number of feeder steers and good numbers of cows and weaner heifers. All the regular processors and feeder buyers were in attendance and competing, along with an increased re-stocker panel. Competition was good, but prices softened in some classes. 

Mixed-sex calves sold from 394c to 462c/kg on average, with the best-bred steers reaching 467c/kg. Lightweight yearling steers 200 to 280kg averaged between 407c and 435c/kg, whilst the medium and heavy pens sold to a top of 459c/kg, averaging between 393c and 429c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg to re-stockers made to 429c/kg. Medium and heavy yearling heifer pens averaged between 345c and 419c/kg. 

Feeders paid to 422c for the best grown steers, with indicative averages between 365c and 410c/kg. Processors paid between 361c and 366c/kg for their grown steers and bullocks.

Grown heifers to feed topped at 399c/kg, averaging between 321c and 375c/kg. Those grown heifers to the trade topped at 360c and averaged between 260c and 341c/kg.

Two-score cows to feed averaged between 254c and 275c, with processors paying to a top of 297c. Heavy four-score cows averaged 284c/kg. 

Heavy bulls were most noticeably easier, averaging 303c to live export and 279c/kg to processors.

ROMA

November 24 report

NUMBERS rose again at the Roma Store Sale on Tuesday, with a total yarding of 7,964 head, up by 876 on last week. Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area with the exception of a large run out of Boulia. The overall quality varied, with prices reflective of quality variations. A smaller buying panel were present, with all regular processors and feeder buyers operating, but southern re-stockers noticeably absent. 

Steers eased across all categories, with lightweight steers down by 14c to 17c. Feedlot competition remained strong, however medium weight feeders under 400kg eased by 22c and heavy weight feeders eased by 15c. 

Lightweight yearling heifers under 200kg improved by 13c, however lightweight heifers under 280kg fell by 13c to 24c. Grown heifers saw improvements of 3c to 21c. 

Medium weight cows to re-stockers improved by 14c, and those to processors fell by 3c to 13c. Heavy weight cows fell by 13c to 16c. 

Lightweight yearling steers under 200kg to re-stockers sold to 560.2c, averaging 531c/kg. The largest sample of lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to re-stockers sold to 539.2c, averaging 493c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 490.2c, averaging 441c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 454.2c and average 426c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 428.2c, average 419c/kg. 

Lightweight yearling heifers under 200kg to re-stockers reached to 522.2c and averaged 496c/kg. The largest sample of lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to re-stockers sold to a top of 532.2c, and averaged 477c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 466.2c, to average 440c/kg. 

The best of the grown steers sold to 385.2c and averaged 382c/kg, while the best of the grown heifers reached a top of 362.2c to average 340c/kg. Medium weight store cows to restockers sold to 316.2c, averaging 300c/kg, while medium weight three-score cows to processors sold to a top of 301.2c, averaging 288c/kg. Heavy weight three-score cows made to 302.2c, averaging 292c/kg and heavy weight four-score cows made to 304.2c, averaging 303c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 330.2c and averaged 320c/kg. Cows and calves reached $2,060/unit. 

WARWICK SHEEP REPORT

November 18 report 

NUMBERS INCREASED to 1,393 head at Warwick on Wednesday of last week, with 1,053 lambs and 340 grown sheep penned. All the regular processors, wholesalers and butchers were present and operating. Feeder operators were very active, however re-stockers were selective on the increased numbers of young lambs and two-score lightweight lambs. 

Overall quality was good, and all trade lambs sold firm to slightly easier prices on the previous sale. New-season lightweight lambs sold to re-stockers at $144, and to the trade at $130. Lightweight trade lambs sold at $198, and to feeder operators at $191, averaging $176/head. Medium and heavy weight lambs sold to processors at a top of $216, with re-stockers paying $202 for the ewe portion. Ram lambs in larger numbers sold to the trade at $201, averaging $164, and to re-stockers at $144. 

Hoggets eased in price to the trade, selling to a top of $178 and averaging $144. Re-stockers paid $192/head for the ewes. 

Young three-score wethers sold to processors at $160, and young ewes sold at $115. 

Heavy weight three-score ewes sold to processors to a top of $196, to average $142. Re-stockers paid $200. Ewes and lambs sold for $250 per unit.
