New City of Cockburn CEO Appointed

City of Cockburn Mayor, Logan K Howlett JP, on behalf of Council, has announced the appointment of Mr Tony Brun as the City’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will take up his new position on 1 February 2021.
The appointment follows an extensive recruitment process aimed at identifying a leader to work with Council and the Administration well into the future given the City’s growth trajectory towards an estimated population of 151,479 by 2031 and the increasing complexities of local government.
“Mr Brun is an experienced executive, civil engineer and company director. He is a recognised leader in infrastructure, community engagement and creating strategies,” Mayor Howlett said.
“He has held the roles of CEO at the City of Greater Geraldton and Chief Strategy Officer at Perth Airport. He has extensive experience in executive and professional roles in the private sector, academia, not-for-profit and in the board space.”
Mr Brun is currently the Head of Planning at Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne where he oversees the planning functions, in addition to planning for a $15 billion program which includes the third runway, Melbourne Airport rail project and key precinct and terminal developments. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Sustainability at Curtin University.
His projects in Geraldton received international acclaim as a finalist in the Bertelsmann Foundation’s global Reinhardt Mohn Prize and winner in the United Nations Environmental Program LivCom Awards 2011 and finalist in 2012.
He also oversaw the selection of Geraldton as one of the IBM Smarter Cities Global Challenge cities.
