The local community is invited to a socially distanced, COVIDSafe event to officially launch the water tower mural by Jimmi Buscombe and the Storytowns Podcast Tour of Lismore.

Funded by Corangamite Shire Council and Berrybank wind farm developer GPG Naturgy, the water tower mural is a new tourist attraction aimed at attracting visitors to the Shire’s north, and the Volcanic Lakes and Plains tourism region.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein invited Shire residents to come and celebrate at Lismore Golf Course on Wednesday 9 December, from 4 pm. Nibbles will be provided and drinks will be available at bar prices.

“Jimmi Buscombe has turned the local landmark into a really attractive artwork that reflects what Lismore is all about,” Cr Gstrein said.

“There was a lot of consultation with the community and the end results is a fitting tribute to our beautiful native fauna and flora, and our proud sheep farming heritage.

“Special thanks must go to the Community Reference Group and former Cr Lesley Brown who put in a terrific amount of work to make sur the end result reflects the character of the town and its people.

“The goal is to attract visitors who enjoy silo art in other parts of the country, and encourage passing highway traffic to stop, explore, and support our local businesses.

The Storytowns Podcast Tours showcases the Lismore Water tower, and includes local stories from some of the residents, which will put the town in the spotlight for a whole new online audience.

The podcast was founded by former Boorcan resident Jarrod Pickford and Council has supported the podcast through the regional Ideas Place program for entrepreneurs and start-ups.

“The podcasts are designed to encourage tourism, promote local businesses and help boost the local economy and links Lismore to silo art tour podcast series,” Cr Gstrein said. “They will be a great marketing asset for our new tourist attraction.”
