Lithgow City Council hosts important event for bushfire-impacted residents

The Bushfire Recovery & Community Day was a free, Covid-safe event organised to help residents connect with recovery services, plan and prepare for the future and thank RFS and emergency service volunteers following last summer’s horror bushfire season – which started in late October and burned into early 2020.
Residents from Clarence, Dargan, Lithgow, Newnes, Running Stream and Wolgan heard from Resilience NSW Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons and visited an exhibition of services and recovery agencies. Award winning journalist and Emcee Gavin Coote facilitated the engaging panel sessions and presentations and media partner ABC Central West broadcasted live on the Saturday morning.
Lithgow Mayor Ray Thompson, Deputy Mayor Wayne McAndrew and Council’s General Manager Craig Butler joined the community at the event.
Lithgow Council was pleased to be able to deliver an event that not only supported impacted residents but provided important information to individuals and the community via the representatives that were engaged.
“The feedback from the community about the event has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re so pleased everyone was able to take something from the day,” Lithgow Council’s Community Recovery Officer said.

The Bushfire Recovery & Community Day was funded by phase one of the joint NSW and Commonwealth Government Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Funds.
