Council to stay in touch over Christmas

Published on 07 December 2020

Essential staff will be on call for emergencies while Corangamite Shire Council is closed for the festive season.

The Civic Centre and some services will close over the Christmas and New Year period but residents with urgent issues can still call Council on 5593 7100 and speak to an on-call officer.

The offices will close at 1 pm, Wednesday 23 December and re-open at 8:30 am on Monday 4 January 2021.

Corangamite Shire Council Mayor Ruth Gstrein wished all residents a happy and safe festive season.

“On behalf of councillors and council staff I would like to wish all of our Shire residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” she said.

“This year has been one of incredible challenges and it’s with great relief that we can look forward to gathering with family and friends as coronavirus restrictions are relaxed.

“After months of uncertainty and sacrifice, the opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones has never been so precious.

“We’re not out of the woods yet so please remember to maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and cough or sneeze into your elbow. If you’re feeling unwell, get tested and stay at home until you get your results. Carry a mask in public and wear it in the supermarket and shared vehicles, or if you can’t stay 1.5 m from other people.

“Hopefully 2021 will see an end to the pandemic, but in the meantime, Council has many terrific projects under way and we will look forward to getting back to work refreshed after a well-earned break.”

Cr Gstrein encouraged everyone to be careful on the roads and in the water, and to remain alert for fire danger warnings.

“If there is an emergency, watch Council’s Facebook page and website for information and updates,” she said.
