Lake Pillans Boardwalk being replaced after bushfires

8 December, 2020

Lithgow City Council has awarded the contract for the reconstruction of the Lake Pillans Boardwalk, destroyed in the December 2019 bushfire event.

“Lake Pillans is a well-used and much loved nature reserve adjoining the Blast Furnace heritage site that is enjoyed by many local people and visitors,” said the Mayor Ray Thompson. “Many people have contacted Council asking what Council is doing about its replacement so we are very pleased to announce that work will commence soon.”

After receiving a number of tenders, Council has awarded the construction contract to a local company – Central Industries. All design work and environmental studies have been completed with the boardwalks to be reconstructed in the first half of 2021.

The original boardwalk was almost completely destroyed in the bushfire requiring Council to seek a new concept and engineering design to meet current standards. The new boardwalk will be attractive and compliant with current building and access codes. Council looks forward to its re-opening for public use by mid-2021.
