Well what do you know! Council elves have been channelling a little North Pole energy and Christmas has arrived in our villages.
Elves have been spreading cheer by hanging extra decorations and organising a program of Christmas carollers performing live festive tunes, while you shop at local businesses.
Get in the festive spirit at a COVID-safe carolling performance by Grace City Church at Dee Why Meriton on Sunday 13 December, 12 - 2pm.
Some of our local villages are extending trading hours for special late-night shopping events too!
Newport Village’s Christmas shopping night will be held Wednesday 16 December, 5 – 8pm but festive promotions from local businesses will run all day.Avalon Village will host a Christmas late night shopping event on Thursday 17 December, 5 - 8pm with live jazz music, sales, children’s colouring competition, Christmas window displays and a very special guest Santa! So jump on the sleigh (or tinsel bandwagon) and do your bit to support our local businesses and shop local.
It’s not just about being festive, we’ve also made our villages a bit more fun this silly season. Look closely and you’ll find captivating chalk art across the area. You can also keep the whole family entertained with hopscotch, snakes and ladders, a maze and ‘Simon Says’ all on the pavement!
We’re also bringing the fun to our beaches with sand art sculptures – watch this space for more details on when and where. The fun will continue all summer too with live art installations to bring some creative flair, more live music and lots of other village and street activations.
As we aren’t able to hold large events this year, we’ve put the funds towards smaller initiatives to ensure our village centres continue to be public places our community enjoys. It also has the added benefit of supporting some of our own local artists and musicians.
Look up to our flag poles and you’ll also see our uniquely Northern Beaches festive flags with waffle cone Santa hats and Christmas tree bauble scoops of ice cream all the way up and down the peninsula.
Have a happy and safe lead up to Christmas.
