Our Christmas will be a bit different this year

Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s annual Christmas Day lunch will look very different this year, with special Christmas packs set to be delivered directly to residents instead of a sit-down lunch event at Kyneton Town Hall.

In a normal year, Macedon Ranges Shire Council would be hosting its 13th annual free Christmas lunch however, due to COVID restrictions the lunch will not go ahead in 2020.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson said Council understands that 2020 has been a trying and difficult year for many, however thanks to a Victorian Government grant, direct support will still be available for those who would usually attend the annual lunch.

“It’s a really positive outcome that we’ve been able to adapt the lunch and still connect with those who need it most in the lead up to Christmas Day.

“Our volunteers will be on hand to deliver Christmas goodie packs of local produce, gifts and vouchers, but more importantly, will be able to check in with community members and share in the festive spirit leading up to the day,” she said.

Council will be contacting all the participants from the last two years of the lunch to see whether they would like to receive a visit from a Council volunteer and a Christmas goodie pack.

If you are interested in donating towards the goodie packs and making the boxes more special, contact Terry Moore on 0439 559 587. There is limited spaces in the boxes so smaller items are preferred. Donations will be accepted up until Thursday 10 December 2020.

The project is funded through the Victorian Government’s Community Activation and Social Inclusion (CASI) initiative.
