Giving Christmas hampers away to brighten Christmas Day

Council will be giving away more than 300 Christmas hampers to bring festive cheer to the most needy in the local community.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said it was a challenging year for many families and individuals affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Christmas is a time of sharing, giving and fellowship with loved ones, but for some members of our community it can be difficult and isolating,” Mayor Waller said.

“Council recognises the strain on families and pressure to provide has only been heightened this year due to COVID-19.  We know a lot of people are doing it tough in Liverpool.”

Council’s annual Christmas lunch for vulnerable and disadvantaged community members was cancelled due to COVID-19. the hampers will be provided by Council instead.

“The Christmas hampers are filled to the brim with food and gifts that will bring some relief and cheer to local community members.

“Council reached out to Liverpool service providers and received an overwhelming demand for Christmas hampers which will be delivered this week.

“Check in on your family, elderly neighbours or people you know are struggling this Christmas if you can,” Mayor Waller said.

“It’s also a good time to volunteer in the local community and get into the spirit of giving and serving others less fortunate,” the Mayor added.
