A new space for creatives is not far from surfacing in Avalon, welcome news after the tough year the creative sector has faced.
Housed on the lower level of the Avalon Golf Clubhouse, Avalon Workshop is currently in its final stages of a renovation. The functional space, inclusive of a combined studio and workshop, has been designed especially with creatives in mind and aims to help make creativity more accessible to the community.
The facility opens in February and is perfect to experiment, create and connect with like-minded folk. Two workshop spaces will be available for hire, ideal for holding classes, artist talks and pop-ups, plus a studio which is available for lease for up to 18 months. It will be fitted out with the essentials including lockable storage cupboards, sinks, a kitchenette, tables, chairs and high-speed Wi-Fi.
It’s a welcome addition to the Avalon art community; a place for local creatives to build their practice or grow a creative business. The space will be great for visual arts, filmmaking and talks.
Avalon Workshop complements Council’s other facilities for the local creative community; the Creative Space at North Curl Curl and the Manly Art Gallery and Museum.
The project is the result of extensive community engagement and has been funded under the Merger Savings Fund.
Avalon Workshop will be programmed in a similar way to the Creative Space at Curl Curl. Artists and creatives can book spaces online. Get in touch if you want to talk about your ideas or to find out more, please email us at [email protected]
