While rainfall in 2020 has been heavier than in previous years and dam levels are close to capacity, water remains a precious resource and we can all do our bit to conserve it.
What is Council doing?
We carried out water audits at some of Council’s highest using sites including Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park and high use sportsgrounds.
As a result, we’ve upgraded several locations and this year we expect to make a combined annual water savings of over 3,100kL which equals savings close to a whopping $10,000 per year.
Some of the improvements we’ve made include:
Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park
Water efficient showers installed at both amenities blocks and a number of holiday cabins.Rainwater harvesting systems at the amenities blocks for toilet flushing.Careel Bay Sportsfield
A rainwater harvesting system installed to irrigate the sportsgrounds.North Narrabeen Reserve
A rainwater harvesting system installed at the North Narrabeen Reserve amenities block for toilet flushing and cleansing. What’s Next?
There are plans to install smart water sourcing controls next year at Porters Reserve, to help boost alternate water sources (rainwater and bore water) and conserve our drinking water.
These smart water sourcing controls have also been recently installed at Careel Bay Sportsfield, North Narrabeen Reserve and Pittwater Rugby Park.
These projects will take us a step closer to reaching our targets set out in the Environment & Climate Change Strategy, namely ‘a 10% reduction in our drinking water and help demonstrate Council commitment to environmental sustainability through investment in alternate water sourcing and water efficiency’.
