Have your say on the new play space at Wentworth Falls Lake Park
Blue Mountains 11 Dec 2020

A new accessible and nature-based play space is now a step closer at Wentworth Falls Lake Park.

Council is exhibiting the proposed designs for two options at yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/wentworthfallslake. Residents can review the designs and let us know which option they prefer, or which elements relating to climbing, swinging and sliding they prefer, until 17 January 2021.

Our four district parks – at Glenbrook Park, Springwood’s Buttenshaw Park, Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park and Wentworth Falls Lake Park – are receiving upgrades valued at more than $5.2 million thanks to funding received through the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.

The play space update at Wentworth Falls lake Park is being funded by Council ($400,000) and an Everyone Can Play grant ($200,000).

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “This new play space will be a welcome addition to the popular district park at Wentworth Falls Lake. The proposed designs feature exciting new elements, while being accessible for all children. Also, given they are nature-based, they are in keeping with our local environment.

“We hope that residents will give us their feedback on these latest designs. Our community’s input has already been invaluable in helping us shape other district parks at Blackheath, Springwood and Glenbrook.”

The final elements will take into account community preferences and the project budget. Work will commence in early 2021.

There are currently two playgrounds at Wentworth Falls Lake Park – the pirate ship playground, which is in good condition and will remain, and the older playground to the west of the park. This playground, that is 20-plus years old and ready for replacement, will remain in place while the new play space is built close by, so there will be no disruption.

In March and July 2020, we asked for the community’s input into the Plan of Management and Masterplan for the park, and we will come back to the community with those draft plans in 2021.

District Parks are large and high quality parks that cater to the needs of the broader Blue Mountains community and visitors.
