Fire Danger Period declared for Baw Baw Shire

Property owners are urged to make sure their land is prepared for the summer months, with the CFA declared Fire Danger Period now in place.

A written permit from the CFA is now required to burn in the open air, with a number of conditions in place.

Baw Baw Shire residents are encouraged to fill their green waste bins, make use of Council’s Transfer Stations and seek help from contractors if they need help with maintaining their properties.

Tidying leaves, twigs and cutting long grass should be the focus of any maintenance work to reduce fuel loads.

Council’s Fire Hazard Inspection Program is now underway to ensure that properties across the Shire do not pose a risk to community safety.

Under the Country Fire Authority Act 1958, Council has a legal obligation to ensure the community’s risk associated with bushfire is reduced.

Visitors to the region are also urged to take note of the restrictions relating to campfires and barbeques.
