Christmas at Twilight

The cheerful chorus of community carols from the Christmas at Twilight event will return to Ron Harborne Oval this Friday 18 December from 5pm.

This alcohol free community event will include ride and food vendors, Christmas carols and a fireworks display. Throughout the evening, a number of prizes will also be up for grabs including:

Best dressed boy - $50 Love Local Gift Card Best dressed girl - $50 Love Local Gift Card Best dressed family - $150 Love Local Gift Card 8 x lucky door prizes for checking in with the QR code upon entry

This year, to ensure physical distancing is maintained while carolling and queuing for vendors, two fields will be used for the event. Food and ride vendors will be located on the Western oval, while the band, choirs and carols will be taking place at its usual location on the cricket oval. Attendees are asked to enter the cricket oval via the North Eastern gate closest to the club house.

Angus Witherby, Council’s Director of Planning and Community Development said, “Council is delighted to be able to hold the carols event for the community this year”.

“This COVID Safe event will require all attendees to check in using a QR code that will be displayed on signage at all entry points, vendors and in the carolling booklet. As an incentive to check in, our generous sponsors has provided lucky door prizes that will be awarded to attendees who have checked in, with the winners to be announced on the following Monday 21 December on Council’s Facebook page.

“During the carolling, families are welcome to bring picnic blankets and sit together in their households however are reminded to keep physically distant from other family groups. Council’s COVID Safety marshals will assist families in maintaining a 1.5m distance throughout the event”, explained Mr Witherby.

“We are so very pleased to be able to hold this year’s Christmas at Twilight event as we know it has become a family favourite in the lead-up to Christmas but we would really appreciate the assistance of attendees in helping us comply with our registered COVIDSafe Plan, which has allowed us to stage this year’s event.

Moree Plains Shire Council and the Moree Community Library will have a marquee on the evening where attendees can collect carolling booklets, participate in a children’s craft activities or receive a free children’s or adults book donated by the Library.
