Vacant shops in Freshwater Village have been transformed into historic photo exhibitions, with incredible local images from the Library’s History Hub displayed in the windows.
Be transported back to 1920 with a school bus full of children meandering through Freshwater Village from Manly Wharf, or 1954 with the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club’s ladies team posing for a group photo.
These buildings are under new ownership and the seven vacant shops have recently been renovated awaiting new tenants. While they’re empty, Council has installed these photographs to improve the vibrancy of the village.
The images have been chosen specifically to reflect the history of Freshwater by our local historians. You can find over 27,000 historical items in History Hub including photographs, oral recordings, fact sheets, maps and more.
The photo exhibition will be displayed through December or until the shop spaces are leased.
This display is just one way we’re bringing vibrancy to our villages and supporting local businesses. We’re making our villages more festive than ever before and encouraging our community to shop local this Christmas.
