Changes in place for festive season kerbside collections

Published on 16 December 2020

Kerbside bin collections will be slightly different for residents whose collections fall on Friday 25 December, 2020, and Friday 1 January, 2021.

Kerbside rubbish, recycling and organics collection will instead take place the following days - Saturday 26 December, 2020, and Saturday 2 January, 2021, respectively.

Affected residents are reminded to put their bins out the night before collection. Normal bin schedules will resume from Monday 4 January, 2021.

Resident are also encouraged to sort their waste correctly over the festive period to avoid any potential issues with excess waste.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing, both in the home and outside of it, family gatherings will be well and truly on the cards across our region.

Ensure all Christmas food scraps are disposed of through your green bin – this includes meat, seafood, poultry and all the usual Christmas delights.

To combat any smell from seafood, put scraps in a compostable bag in the freezer first. You can then pop the scraps into your green bin right before collection.

Wrapping paper can only be recycled if it passes the scrunch test. Simple paper wrap can be recycled, however foil or glitter decorated paper cannot, and needs to go in the red landfill/rubbish bin.

Before recycling, remove any sticky tape and decorations such as ribbons and bows, as these cannot be recycled.

If you have lots of cardboard and polystyrene from Christmas presents, remember this can be taken to the Mildura Landfill for free.

The Mildura Landfill will also operate under modified hours during the festive period:

Christmas Day: CLOSED Saturday 26, Sunday 27, Monday 28 December: 9.30am to 4.45pm Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30, Thursday 31 December: 8.15am to 4.45pm New Year’s Day: CLOSED Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 January 2021: 9.30am to 4.45pm

Our Waste Education and Project Officer is available to assist residents with sorting their waste correctly - contact (03) 5018 8100.
