Following a recommendation from the Economic Development Team, Councillors have approved for a grant variation request to go to CreateNSW for Jindabyne Library.

In seeking this variation, the preferred outcome is for a modular library of approx. 500m2 gross, adjacent to Jindabyne Memorial Hall, to be installed and remain on-site as a library for at least five years. Grant money is being used for the capital costs of the project. The grant is valued at $3M and the site was set aside for this purpose around 20 years ago.

Council acknowledges that additional operational costs will result from this but that it’s important for the town to have a library facility. It was noted that this will also be a good testing point for a future library in that location. The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct study is still underway and a permanent library will be part of that plan.

Jindabyne is currently serviced by the Snowy Monaro Regional Council mobile library service.
