Cairns residents who find themselves without water can now head to Council’s website to get the most up to date information about unplanned outages.
Modelled on Ergon Energy’s popular “outage finder”, Council’s new online water outage finder provides real-time information on unplanned water outages and an estimated time for repairs to be completed.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said the tool would allow residents without water to quickly check if there was a reported outage in their area.
“Of course, if there is no report online, residents should immediately contact Council on 1300 692 247,” Cr Manning said.
“Unplanned water supply outages usually occur due to a leak or burst in a water main.
“At times, our crews may have to temporarily disconnect the water supply to surrounding areas so the pipe can be repaired.”
Once the water supply has been restored a “closed” status will appear. The job will then remain online between 12-24 hours before it is removed from the list.
Residents should be aware that when the water is reconnected, some air and debris may enter the pipes.
The water may appear milky in colour however, it is safe for use.
If the water supply does not resume, low pressure is experienced, or the water remains discoloured after some time, please contact Council’s Call Centre on 1300 692 247 to report the fault.
Residents are encouraged to run an outside tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear.
