Council will continue to discuss with the State Government Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) the future ownership of the Hanging Rock East Paddock. The background to these discussions is a State Government commitment to purchase the East Paddock to incorporate it into the State Government’s Hanging Rock Crown Land Reserve.
At the 16 December 2020 Council Meeting, Council considered a report that provided an update on the discussions to date, and adopted the following recommendation to determine the next steps:
That Council:
Approve the public disclosure of Council’s valuation of the East Paddock site at Hanging Rock; Continue to work with the DELWP to negotiate a satisfactory outcome to the proposed transfer of the East Paddock; and That the outcome of discussions with DELWP be subject to a report back to Council for Council’s consideration.Part C of the Council resolution is of particular importance as during the Councillor debate on this matter it was made very clear that any decision on whether to sell the East Paddock to the State Government or to retain ownership would be subject to extensive community consultation. This community feedback would then inform Council’s decision.
The site has been valued by an independent valuer at $3.065 million (October 2019).
