Kick off for sports at Comely Banks

Construction of four multisport rugby league fields and a multipurpose cricket practice facility at Comely Banks Recreation Reserve in Officer has officially started.

The next stage of the shire’s newest community and sport hub will also include a playground, open spaces and onsite car parking.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen said he was pleased works had kicked off on these highly anticipated sport facilities.

“These new facilities will help serve the sport and recreation needs of our community now and into the future,” he said.

“Council acknowledges the $800,000 contribution from the Victorian Government, and overall the Council will contribute more than $7 million to design and construction of the project.”

“The project shows our commitment to providing accessible, multi-use and well-designed community facilities for our growing community and promoting good health and wellbeing outcomes for all,” he said.

Officer Ward Councillor Tammy Radford said the project was estimated to be completed in July 2021 and after a maintenance schedule, will then be open for use in July 2022.

“The new rugby league fields and multipurpose cricket practice facility will complement the shared-use pavilion being constructed at the reserve,” Cr Radford said.

“The construction of the pavilion remains ongoing and is expected to be completed by March.”

The pavilion will feature unisex change room facilities, unisex umpires change facilities, fully accessible exterior/interior amenities, kiosk/canteen facilities, integrated community space, and external covered spectator areas.

Comely Banks Recreation Reserve is located at 125 Bridge Road, Officer.
