Masks mandatory at all airports

From Tuesday 12 January, everyone over the age of 12 will be required to wear a face mask at all airports and on domestic commercial flights.

Armidale Regional Council is ramping up efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, and will be providing free disposable face masks within the Armidale Regional Airport for those who forget to bring their own for as long as necessary.

Armidale Regional Council’s General Manager said this is an important step to ensure the region remains COVID- free.

“If you are in the terminal, you must wear a mask, and by providing free face masks within the airport, we are ensuring Armidale Regional Council is on the front foot of the region’s response to the latest outbreaks,” he said.

“We are encouraging the public to bring their own face mask, however, we have made sure there are masks available for those who forget to bring one.”

“In February last year, we were ahead of the curve by implementing sanitising stations and increasing cleaning schedules early on, and with the latest risk of the highly infectious UK strain, our response is just as prompt.”

Regular cleaning will continue to be conducted, and there are several sanitising stations set up around the airport to ensure hygiene remains at a high level. Air-conditioning filters will also be cleaned more regularly to increase airflow around the facility.

Armidale Regional Council will be working closely with NSW Health and the NSW Police to ensure effective screening is carried out to keep the virus out of our region.

“We will do our best to make sure no one infected with the virus enters our community, and we have utmost confidence in the work NSW Health and the NSW Police are doing to contact trace and make sure people are following guidelines,” said Mr Roncon.

“QR codes went up in the airport on Friday, which will make sure everyone who enters and leaves the facility is accounted for. This will be a valuable tool in keeping our community safe.”

Armidale Regional Council is also enforcing strict cleaning at the airport café, which is currently only operating during flight times, and is a registered COVID-Safe venue.
