To say 2020 has been a tough year for our local tourism industry would be an understatement. With the closures of borders and a local COVID-19 cluster at a time when tourism operators would usually be experiencing peak bookings, it has been hard for so many.
Our tourism operators are your neighbours, family and friends – and now is the time to support them. And you can do it while having a good time too!
Be a tourist in your own backyard and book an experience like kayaking, beach yoga, stand up paddle boarding, a surf lesson, sailing lesson, hire bikes or a boat for the day!
You’re sure to work up an appetite getting out and about too – so pop into a local café or restaurant, refuel and you’ll be supporting them too.
We’ve put together a Destination Management Plan and two-year Recovery Plan to support our tourism industry on the road to recovery. As a local, we need your feedback to make sure we’ve got it right. Have your say before Sunday 7 February.
If you own a local tourism business, we’re here to support you. Council is offering a free mentoring program with the Tourism eSchool. Marketing experts will guide you on how to promote your services and drive demand. Register your interest now.
We also urge all local businesses to use our new support service. Book in for a phone appointment or attend one of our upcoming face-to-face meetings and access current information and advice for your local business to help get you through these challenging times.
