Mural to combat graffiti in Point Cook
Wyndham City 18 Jan 2021

Walking along the Skeleton Creek Trail near Dolphin Crescent, Point Cook, just got that little bit better with the addition of some stunning flora and fauna.

The idea to create the dual-sided masterpiece recently completed by local artist Jimmy Dvate, was presented to Wyndham's Graffiti Team by the Point Cook Action Group (PCAG) last year.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Adele Hegedich, said the impressive mural was created in in a bid to tackle a persistent graffiti problem while enhancing the local area.

“Council have outlaid close to $10,000 in the past 12 months to remove graffiti locally and spend an average of $350,000 annually to keep Wyndham free of graffiti,” Cr Hegedich said.

“The mural location is a popular spot for walkers and riders and now provides something extra impressive for them to enjoy along their journey.”

Community Safety Portfolio Holder, Cr Susan McIntyre added the creation of this new section of the Palmers Road sound-wall was an opportunity to create something special visually for the area and build on the work by Point Cook Action group who painted the 2km sound-wall and keep it free from graffiti.

‘The new mural shows the beauty of our natural environment and it’s an amazing reminder of all that is on our doorstep,” Cr McIntyre said.

“It shows the responsiveness of council to listen to the local community and deliver not only a preventive measure against graffiti but something to be proud of.”

“Wyndham City partnered with 'Remember the Wild' wildlife group as well as Vic Roads to make the mural project possible.”
