Ethan Butson – a 25-year-old scientific inventor who aims to develop innovative solutions to medical and scientific problems to aid humanity – has been announced at the Yass Valley’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2021.

Having completing his Advanced Science degree, majoring in both Physics and Chemistry, and Masters in Medical Physics at the University of Sydney, Ethan is currently working towards accreditation in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics and his career in cancer treatment.

Ethan has worked in the field of disability support and was a finalist for the 2015 NSW Young Australian of the Year. He is a cofounding partner in Scilutions Pty Ltd, a company providing Scientific Solutions to improve the life quality and life safety of those in need.

“I’m delighted to be making the trip to Yass for Australia Day and I look forward to celebrating with the community with breakfast in the park,” Ethan said.

Ethan Butson is the Yass Valley 2021 Australia Day Ambassador.

Yass Valley’s official COVID-19 safe Australia Day event will be held on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 in Coronation Park, Yass. Rotary Club and CWA volunteers will start serving breakfast and tea/coffee from 7.30am, with formalities - including the announcement of the 2021 Australia Day award recipients and citizenship ceremony - commencing at 8am.

“The annual Australia Day Awards is a great way for us to come together as a community, in some way, shape or form, and publicly thank those individuals and groups that work hard to make Yass Valley such a wonderful place to live,” said Yass Valley Mayor, Rowena Abbey.

“After a challenging 2020, it will be particularly fitting to acknowledge the caring and generous contributions of our citizens. It is also a time for us to officially welcome our newest Australian citizens to Yass Valley.”

A COVID-19 Safety Plan has been prepared for the event and Council asks all attendees to help us stay COVID-19 safe by following these rules on the day:

Keep 1.5 metres apart. Practise good hand hygiene. Stay home if you are unwell and get tested immediately. Follow the rules about wearing a face mask.

The event will be held in line with the NSW Public Health Order in place at the time and any last minute updates or changes to the event will be posted to Council’s Facebook Page.

A livestream of the citizenship and awards ceremony will be provided for residents who wish to watch from home. You can view this at https://youtu.be/R-fSrUyPW-0
