Gannawarra Shire Council is working with the Lions Club of Cohuna to rejuvenate Kings Park, Cohuna.

Located at the intersection of Belmont and Cullen streets, the playground has provided joy for residents living in the eastern area of Cohuna for many years.

“Current and former residents will have happy memories of spending time at Kings Park, using the play equipment on-site or playing ball games,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Council would like this park bring joy for residents for many years to come, and is pleased to have united with the Lions Club of Cohuna on this project.”

Council and Lions Club representatives consulted with various community groups and residents during the final months of 2020 to determine how Kings Park is currently utilised and what improvements can be made to help make the park an inviting location for families.

Thanks to this feedback, Council will spend the coming months installing extra shade and picnic tables within the park.

“The existing main playground will remain, with garden and nature play elements, such as climbing logs, to be installed as part of these improvements,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“A half-court basketball play space will also be built, which will enable visitors to Kings Park to keep active.”

Council will keep residents updated regarding the progress of these improvements via Gannawarra Connect, Gannawarra News and Council’s Facebook page.

“The Lions Club of Cohuna look forward to continuing to work with the community, Gannawarra Shire Council and all groups and businesses to improve Kings Park, and look forward to continual support from everyone involved,” Lions Club of Cohuna President, Anthony Troy said.
