Sport and recreation organisations will soon be eligible for further discounts under Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) ‘Discounting or Waiver of Council Development Application Fees’ policy.
Adopted at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 19 January, TRC Planning and Development Committee Chair Cr Megan O’Hara Sullivan said the policy had been broadened to provide further assistance to local groups.
“As part of our Discounting or Waiver of Council Development Application Fees policy we’ve had a thorough look at what further incentives we can provide these groups, while also ensuring we’re financially responsible with any discount provided,” she said.
“There’s no doubt these groups provide an amazing service to our community, and as such, we want to extend a helping hand.
“Through these changes to the policy, we believe we’ve got this balance right.”
Previously, sport and recreation organisations were eligible for a 50% discount/waiver for up to $10,000. These groups will now be eligible for a 100% discount/waiver for up to $10,000.
In supporting the changes, TRC Planning and Development Committee portfolio leader Cr Bill Cahill said the amended policy was a step in the right direction for Council.
“In the past there have been some inconsistencies which we needed to address,” he said.
“It’s important we provide a consistent and equitable approach to the discounting or waiver of development application fees across the board.
“With the amended policy now endorsed, these groups will know exactly what discounts and waivers are available to them.”
In addition to sporting and recreation organisations, Council also offers the same discount for community or welfare based non-profit organisations, charitable organisations and emergency services.
The policy is scheduled to have taken effect from 1 July, 2020 and will be reviewed annually.
