Recent Fire near Great Southern Highway

The Shire of York would like to sincerely thank the 150 firefighters who worked tirelessly both in the air and on the ground to protect lives and property in the recent fire at Daliak, St Ronans, Wilberforce and Inkpen to York’s west and north. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services confirmed 100 firefighters battled to control the fire with about 50 Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service, Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services, Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters also on the scene.

Blaze Aid

Residents and land-owners impacted by this fire are invited to contact the Shire to register their interest in seeking support through the Blaze Air program to clear, repair or replace fences.

Blazeaid is a volunteer based organization that assists communities to recover after natural disasters, fires, floods etc. Restoring damaged fences is a priority so that farmers can get back to normal as quickly as possible.

Teams of volunteers will come to the properties and work with the farmers, we have all the necessary equipment and many Blazeaid volunteers have had years of experience in fencing.

THERE IS NO COST TO AFFECTED FARMERS, NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

Shire of York President Denese Smythe said that she was grateful for the immense efforts of DFES personnel and emergency services volunteers to get the fire under control.

“Any fire is scary and dangerous and I am grateful for how hard the firefighters worked to control the fire during the day and throughout the night. As always, our community stepped up to support each other. There was an overwhelming response in the community from volunteers on standby to the local bakery providing filled rolls for the firefighters. I want to extend a thank you to them too”.
