With an Australia Day pseudo-long weekend ahead and warm summer conditions forecast, here’s what you need to know to have a great time while staying COVID-safe on the Northern Beaches:

Attend an event

Beach too busy? Car park full? Head to one of our Australia Day inspired events instead. Markets, pool parties, outdoor cinema and more offer great entertainment for kids and adults alike.

Check the beach status

If you do plan to visit the beach make sure you check if your local is open before you leave home here. Beaches can be closed due to dangerous conditions or if they reach capacity.

Be aware of surf carnivals

A number of surf carnivals are planned which may impact on crowds and parking. You might like to choose an alternate beach on the following days:

Manly and Shelley beaches

Sat 23 Jan, 7am – 5pm

North Steyne Beach

Sat 23 and Sun 24 Jan, 6am – 4pm

Freshwater Beach and Reserve

Sat 23 and Sun 24 Jan, 6am – 5pm

Plan your trip

With large crowds predicted across the four days, walking, cycling and public transport might be your best option if planning to visit the beach, busy park or our town centres. Call 131500 or visit NSW Transport for all transport information.

Be COVID-safe

Here on the Beaches we are all too familiar with what is required to be COVID-safe! Don’t forget the 1.5m social distancing (about a towel length apart), use hand sanitiser, wear masks where required and stay home and get tested if experiencing even the mildest of symptoms. We don’t ever want to have to go back into lock down and COVID safe practices help us all stay safe.

Know where you can drink

There are Alcohol Free Zones on all beaches sand areas and attached reserves from 6am, Tuesday 26 to 6am, Wednesday 27 January. keep that in mind before you pack the beers in the picnic.

Support your local businesses

Book a meal at your local café or restaurant, order some takeaway, try a new experience, support your local gift shop, get your nails done. Every little bit helps in the recovery of our local businesses and they need us more than ever.

Be kind!

Police and Rangers will be out to make sure everyone enjoys the weekend, stays safe and doesn’t ruin it for others. Please cooperate as they do their important work.
