Are you interested in working with children? Becoming a Family Day Care Educator may be the perfect career change for you, and we’ll support you at every step of the way.
We’re currently working with 60 Educators across the Beaches, and are now specifically recruiting for educators in Manly, Balgowlah, Fairlight, Freshwater and Mona Vale as demand has increased.
You’ll be able to offer highly personalised, flexible and quality care for children aged six weeks to 12 years in a nurturing and safe home environment.
Working from homeWhat would be better than rolling out of bed into your “office” and not having to rush out the door, or be stuck in peak hour traffic? Enjoy better flexibility, work from home and set your own hours.
Be your own bossYou will run the show, but you’ll enjoy clear guidelines and support from Council and our coordination team. We’re always available to provide tailored assistance and, most importantly, we’ll help with filling vacancies from our centralised waitlist. We’ll also support you with educational planning, safety and hygiene practices and regulatory requirements, to ensure top notch care and education.
Ongoing professional developmentAs an educator you will have access to a range of professional development and networking opportunities (such as weekly play session), as well as the great support that a local government organisation can provide. You can even study while working to obtain your qualifications. Not to mention, you’ll also have access to a huge range of resources, toys and equipment for free to create a beautiful learning environment.
Earn a good incomeFamily Day Care fees are decided by you as the educator and vary depending on the type and length of care required. In general fees average around $13 per hour, per child. That’s $52 per hour with four children in care.
Create strong connectionsThe decision to put children in care can be daunting, but parents value the deep bond that forms between their child and others, which happens easily in a Family Day Care setting. Parents go to work feeling confident that their child will be looked after in a caring, nurturing and stimulating environment. They also like the family environment where a child tends to settle quickly and that the care offered to their child is tailored to suit their individual needs.
We asked Potira de Azevedo who runs a Family Day Care service in her Curl Curl home about her experience as an educator.
I moved to Australia in 2010 with a two-year-old child. I am a qualified architect, but started to consider what kind of work made sense for me at this new stage of my life. As a mother, I started to read all about education and care subjects and then made the decision to study an early childhood qualification. I became an educator in my first year in this new country, discovering a way to channel all my creativity and passion for children into a career.
