The Australia Day Awards program provides our community with the opportunity to recognise our local heroes, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we remain a connected, sustainable and creative community.
In and amongst the challenges of Covid, Council and the Urunga Lions Club have worked together to enable a small and safe celebration of Australia Day for 2021. For Council this has included refining the award categories to better reflect our community aspirations, challenges and achievements following the introduction of our Home-Grown Heroes Award category at last year’s 2020 Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
The Urunga Lions Club, supported by Council, will host this year’s Australia Day Awards event in Urunga. The program will include Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony, a free BBQ breakfast and light refreshments. The Mayor, Cr Dominic King will recognise our Australia Day Awards recipients during the proceedings.
Community members are encouraged to attend the Australia Day celebration and are reminded to adhere to Covid-safe protocols. Seating will be limited so Council encourages families to bring a picnic rug and practice social distancing as required.
