Some households in Yass have experienced recent discolouration of water caused by prevailing warm weather and the dislodgement of sediments attached to the pipe wall through increased water flow/usage. The issue is related to the sediment attached to the water main that is dislodged due to high water flow, which mainly occurred along the trunk water main from the Water Treatment Plant to the reservoir. The water that is coming out of the water treatment plant is clear and safe. Sporadic incidents are expected along the trunk water main (250 cast iron main from the 1960s) while the hot temperatures prevail. Staff will continue to monitor the situation and flush the system to assist with moving the discoloured water through the pipes.

If discoloration occurs, run the tap nearest to the meter for several minutes to clear the water. If discoloration persists, please send a customer service request via: Email [email protected] Submit a customer service request form via our website: HERE Phone 6226 1477. All discoloured water complaints received will be attended to by Council water staff. To flush the mains, a street address is required. Works schedule – 25 January to 29 January Moorbys Lane - completed. Wargeila Road - completed. Davis Lane - in progress. Mountain Creek Road - completed. Horseshoe Road - in progress. Spring Range Road - in progress. Public Consultation Submissions welcome for Civic Precinct

In February 2020, Council endorsed a ‘wish list’ of projects and resolved to undertake planning and design work so the projects would be ‘shovel ready’ in the event of grant funding opportunities. One of these projects is a Civic Precinct, which would include a new library, community rooms and exhibition spaces, long term Government tenants and the retention of Crago Mill among other elements. Council is keen to understand if the elements for inclusion in the Civic Precinct meet community needs and expectations. At its December 2020 Council meeting, Council resolved to ask the community for further feedback regarding the preferred location for the Civic Precinct. Submissions about the location are particularly sought for the continued use of Council’s current location in Comur Street, Yass, or, alternatively, another site that will meet Council and community needs in the long term. Community members are invited to make a submission on the proposed location and scope of works.
