Cohuna caravan park electricity boost

Works to upgrade power sites at the Cohuna Waterfront Holiday Park will proceed after Gannawarra Shire Council received State Government support for the project.

Council successfully applied for $85,000 from Round 2 of the State Government’s Caravan and Camping Grants program to support the project, which will provide electrical supply to the facility’s 36 unpowered sites and increase capacity for future development on-site.

“One of the largest caravan parks in the Gannawarra, the Cohuna Waterfront Holiday Park features 245 sites and 18 cabins, offering a range of accommodation options and amenities for visitors,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Stacy Williams said.

“Unfortunately the existing supply does not provide enough power to the park’s powered sites.”

As part of the works, a transformer will be installed on-site, increasing the electricity supply from 250amps to 1000amps.

“The installation of this transformer will guarantee an adequate power supply to the park year-round, including peak times, eliminating the need to restrict accommodation bookings and employ the use of a generator during peak holiday times,” Mrs Williams said.

“This upgrade will also provide the means for the holiday park to expand its facilities.

“Additionally, through providing more opportunities to accommodate visitors to Cohuna, these improvements will grow the tourism market, providing new business opportunities for both the Holiday Park and other local businesses while encouraging greater promotion of the local environment to a larger market.”
