We are excited to announce the eagerly awaited Sandringham Living and Learning Centre is now open.
Although the building has retained its external appearance once you take a peek inside you will be captivated by the highlight features from circular windows to dynamic ceilings overhead.
The $4.2m upgrades has transformed the existing library into a facility that meets community expectations for a modern library with emphasis on spaces and programs for children and younger adults.
The new library is a place for all, providing a modern meeting point for the Bayside community to gather and engage with quiet reading rooms, revitalised program facilities, upgraded technology, a large collection of books and more.
Designed by Croxon Ramsey and constructed by 2Construct, the library floor size has been increased by 300 square metres within the existing footprint of the building. The centre now incorporates the purpose-built Maternal Child and Health Centre, servicing families from the Sandringham, Black Rock and Cheltenham areas.
The renovation took just under 12 months to complete and while the works were underway the local community made use of a smaller library service that continued to run from a shop within Sandringham, offering a small collection of popular books and DVDs.
Community members are invited to come along to the centre between 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday to explore the new facilities.
Story times and other programs will remain virtual for now, but as we enter COVID normal, watch for these and other programs to resume.
