Moree’s Newest Australian citizen - Lynn Tran

Moree’s newest Australian Citizen, Miss Lynn Tran, was officially welcomed through a special Australia Day ceremony held at Jellicoe Park this morning.

After reciting the Australia citizenship pledge Ms Tran was presented with her citizenship certificate by Moree Plains Shire Council’s Mayor.

Miss Tran first came to Australia in 2012 to study as she received a full scholarship from the University of Adelaide, after completing her university degree Ms Tran said that she “truly felt at home”.

“I fell in love with the culture, the beautiful nature and the hospitality of the people. I truly feel at home being in Australia.

“I have lived in Moree for more than 5 years now, I love the friendliness of the local people as well as the peacefulness of a small country town that Moree has to offer.

“Becoming an Australian citizen gives me a sense of belonging, a closing chapter to my migration story. It also broadens my career opportunities and allows me to contribute more to Australia, my second forever home”, said Miss Tran.

Mayor Katrina Humphries attend the event as the presiding officer of the citizenship ceremony, describing her role as “highly rewarding”.

“Leading citizenship ceremonies is a highlight of my role as Mayor; I am able to see firsthand how diverse our community is and join in on celebrating the final stage of each individual’s journey to becoming an Australia citizen”, said Mayor Humphries.

“Citizenship ceremonies embrace our multiculturalism as we welcome people from all backgrounds into the Australian family.

“Becoming an Australian citizen is a momentous occasion that influences future generations, it is a special moment where an individual officially decides to call Australia home”, concluded Mayor Humphries.

In the future, Miss Tran hopes to continue studying to fulfil her dream of becoming an academic and start up a small business where she can showcase Vietnamese cuisine and culture to regional areas of Australia.

Miss Tran was provided with a framed certificate of citizenship and a native tree, Mayor Humphries announced that the tree will grow with her and her experiences as a new Australian citizen.
