Andrew Sullivan takes on Mayoral duties
City of Fremantle 1 Feb 2021

The City of Fremantle’s Deputy Mayor Andrew Sullivan will cover Mayoral duties while the current Mayor Brad Pettitt takes a leave of absence.

Mayor Pettitt is on leave from 1 February until 20 March while he runs for a seat in the Legislative Council of the WA Parliament.

Should Mayor Pettitt be elected in the State Election on 13 March his position as Fremantle Mayor will become vacant.

In that event, it is likely the City will request the Electoral Commissioner allow the position of Mayor to remain vacant until the Ordinary Local Government Election due to be held in October 2021.

If the Electoral Commissioner allows the position of Mayor to remain vacant the Deputy Mayor will continue to undertake Mayoral duties until the Ordinary Election.

Mayor Pettitt was first elected to Fremantle Council in 2005 and is currently serving his third term as Mayor having been elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013 and 2017.

Cr Sullivan first served on the council from 1992 to 1998, and was re-elected to represent South Ward in 2009. He was elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor in October 2019.
