Get ready to see $465,000 worth of grants from our Shire’s $1.5m Bushfire Recovery, Resilience and Preparedness funds deliver local projects that will build our community’s capacity to prepare, respond and recover from natural disasters.
Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said it was exciting to see our Shire’s Get Ready, Get Together and Assist and Empower Grant funds invested in community driven projects that would directly or indirectly benefit every resident across our Shire’s villages.
“There’s a whole range of fantastic projects that have been funded and it’s great to see how everybody has embraced the opportunity to strengthen our community’s capacity to meet the challenges our Shire faces now and into the future”.
Cr King said the bushfire grants program had attracted a competitive field of submissions and that the projects selected would deliver Shire-wide solutions to ensure we are well prepared for the next fire season.
“The projects selected will not only strengthen our capacity to meet the range of challenges bushfires present our Shire because they will also help us prepare, respond and recover from the range of natural disasters we’ve faced including the recent floods and drought”.
Cr King said our community and Council had worked in partnership to identify the projects that would now provide long-term solutions to the environmental, social and economic challenges we will face in the years ahead.
“The decisions we have made as a community, what is important to us and how to best prepare ourselves for the future has required a lot of hard work by everyone involved and I congratulate our community on the quality of the projects they have delivered”.
