Springwood Library’s $2.62 million redesign set to get underway

The next stage of the Springwood Library redevelopment is about to begin.
The $2.62 million redesign – funded by Council, the NSW Government and Australian Government through the Western Parkland City Liveability Program – will transform Springwood Library into a modern, light-filled space with full glazing to the south façade providing excellent views, plus quiet study areas and a fully accessible lift.
The last day for the existing library at Springwood will be Saturday, 27 February 2021. From this time, library staff will begin to pack up the library that first opened its doors in 1974.
From Monday 15 March 2021, Springwood Library will launch ‘Library in the Loft’, located upstairs at the Hub, very close to the existing library.
At ‘Library in the Loft’ customers can:
• Collect reserved items • Access WiFi and public computers (45 min limit) • Access photocopying, scanning and printing services.
“Springwood library is a significant and well-loved Blue Mountains facility,” Mayor Mark Greenhill said. “The new library was designed after considerable community consultation including with library members, local residents and library staff.
“It will complete the redevelopment of this dynamic cultural precinct, following the opening of the new Blue Mountains Community Theatre & Hub in 2015.
“We understand how important libraries are to the community and we will continue to operate a library service upstairs at the Springwood Hub, while the new library is built and until it reopens in 2022.”
‘Library in the Loft’ will be open Monday to Friday 10am-1pm and 3pm-5pm.
Customers can also use Blaxland Library, and they can browse items at other Blue Mountains Libraries and online to collect from the ‘Library in the Loft’.
Blue Mountains City Council provides six library facilities, including the award-winning Katoomba Library.

The Western Parkland City Liveability Program is part of the Western Sydney City Deal (WSCD). The WSCD is a 20 year-agreement between the Australian and NSW governments, and the eight local Councils of the Western Parkland City.
