See how Cockburn will reopen

City of Cockburn facilities and services will gradually reopen from 6pm tonight following the State Government decision to lift its 5-day COVID-19 lockdown.

The decision comes after no new COVID-19 cases were detected as of this morning.

This will enable the City to reopen some facilities as early as 6pm, with restrictions remaining in place. Entry to City facilities will only be allowed if a mask is worn in line with State Government regulations.

All customers and visitors will be asked to scan the SafeWA app or to provide their contact details. Social distancing will be enforced.

These restrictions will apply until 12.01am on Sunday 14 February, unless circumstances change and the State Government amends its current advice.

A City of Cockburn Crisis Management Team meeting today set in motion arrangements to reopen City facilities and services.

The annual Cockburn Central community concert, scheduled for Saturday 6 February, remains cancelled as the City does not believe it prudent to stage the event, even if lockdown has ended, due to large audience numbers.

The following facilities and services will be open from 6pm:

All playgrounds Community sporting facilities (max 150 people per facility, 4sqm rule in place), sporting grounds and public open space Exercise equipment Barbecues Skate parks Water play areas Dog parks Pump tracks Drinking fountains. Restrictions on the number of participants at sporting events will apply. Members and participants should contact their respective sports clubs and associations for clarification.    Community and sporting facilities are available for hire with restricted numbers. City officers will contact those with existing bookings to advise requirements and numbers. For any queries please email the City.

Henderson Waste Recovery Park (HWRP) will open as usual from tomorrow but the Reuse Shop will stay closed until further notice.

All waste collection services, including kerbside waste bins, verge hard waste collections, park and litter bins, are continuing as normal.

Cockburn ARC will open with restrictions from 5.30am tomorrow via user pays online bookings only. There will be no 24/7 gym and opening hours will be reduced from 5.30am-7.30pm. Stay tuned with updates at the ARC website opens in a new window.

All Cockburn Libraries will reopen as usual tomorrow and Azelia Ley Homestead Museum at Manning Park will open as usual on Sunday.

All City facilities including the Seniors Centre (with restricted programs), Volunteer Resource Centre, all Libraries, Youth Centre, the Spearwood Administration Office, Bibra Lake Operations Centre and Port Coogee Marina Services Office will commence their usual operating hours from Monday.

The Ordinary Council Meeting scheduled for Thursday 11 February at 7pm will go ahead as usual, although as there will be restrictions on the number of attendees, the City is encouraging the public to register online before the meeting.

The City will soon announce a new date for its Annual General Meeting, which was postponed due to the lockdown. Monitor the City website and social media for the new date.

Mayor Logan Howlett praised the Cockburn community for its outstanding response to the lockdown, which he said was essential to protect our most vulnerable members.

“Living in one of the safest places in the world, we need to remain vigilant and follow advice from our health professionals.”
