Macedon Ranges Shire Council is noted for its tree-lined streets and avenues, and has over 35,000 street trees within its townships.
Council is committed to managing these trees to enhance both public safety and amenity and undertakes both scheduled and emergency inspections of its street trees.
Following storm damage on 26 November 2020 and the failure of two Elm trees, Council inspected 33 trees on the southern side of Beauchamp St, Kyneton. Following this inspection it was determined that 17 of these trees required more detailed assessment. This involved the use of sonic tomography (like an x-ray) to understand if and to what extent any decay was present in these trees.
As a result of this more detailed inspection, it has been recommended that three trees require removal and 24 trees require remedial pruning.
While it is expected that this will result in the short-term loss of approximately 20% of tree canopy, pruning will encourage healthy regrowth.
The removed trees will be replaced with the same species in the autumn/winter planting season.
These works aim to ensure that this important row of trees continue to provide amenity benefits to the community and maximise the useful life of the trees.
Works are expected to take place during the week commencing 15 February 2021. It is anticipated that there may be some minor traffic delays and disruptions to local residents and businesses during this time. We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.
