Friends of the Armidale War Memorial Library donate new shelving and money for accessible books

The Armidale Regional Council War Memorial Library has received two generous donations from the Friends of the Armidale War Memorial Library.

Thanks to the group’s outstanding fundraising efforts, the library is now home to $8000 worth of new shelving to be used for displaying the library’s latest arrivals.

“We have never had a designated place to display our new releases, so this is an excellent addition to our upgraded space,” said Armidale Regional Council’s General Manager James Roncon.

“By promoting the excellent content our library has to offer and displaying in demand content front and centre, it will encourage more people to utilise the facility.”

The Friends of the Armidale War Memorial Library comprises of ten committee members, and currently has just over 100 members who are active advocates for the library and everything it has to offer.

The group regularly fundraises for the facility, and in addition to the new shelving, they also recently donated $10,000 to purchase more large-print and talking books.

“These greatly benefit the elderly and the visually impaired members of our community, so it is fantastic that the library is investing in these items and making the service accessible to all,” said Mr Roncon.

“Purchasing books that cater to the elderly and visually impaired can be quite costly, so the generous donation from the Friends of the Armidale War Memorial Library is greatly appreciated.”

To come and see the new shelving and books for yourself, drop in to the Armidale Regional War Memorial Library on Rusden Street. The library is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 5.30pm, and 10am – 1pm on Saturdays.
