Liverpool City Council’s Memories in the Mall event will return to Macquarie Mall on Friday 12 February.

The annual event marks the anniversary of the National Apology to Australia’s First Nations People, particularly to the Stolen Generations, by former prime minister Kevin Rudd in 2008.

The event is supported by Council’s Aboriginal Consultative Committee, comprised of members of the Aboriginal community, non-Aboriginal people and Council Officers.

“Through these events, we continue to recognise the strong presence of our First Nations People here in our Liverpool community and their connection to the land,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“Memories in the Mall celebrates a significant milestone in our ongoing journey, as a nation, towards reconciliation and healing.”

“We invite everyone to acknowledge the vibrant First Nations community in Liverpool both past and present.”

Memories in the Mall will commence at 11am with an Acknowledgment of Country by Uncle Tony Scholes, Chairperson of the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council.

The event will also feature arts and crafts stalls, cultural displays, and entertainment .

“We are pleased to be able to bring this special community event back to Liverpool in a COVID Safe and responsible way,” said Mayor Waller.

Later this year Liverpool City Council will mark National Sorry Day on 26 May and National NAIDOC Week 2021 between 4 and 11 July.
